Faced with the high number of Active Shooter occurrences in the United States, society routinely wrestles with a fundamental question: can anything be done to prevent attacks on our loved ones, our children, our schools, our churches, concerts, and communities?
In the weeks and months before an attack, many active shooters engage in behaviors that may signal impending violence. While some of these behaviors are intentionally concealed, others are observable and — if recognized and reported — may lead to a disruption prior to an attack.
In this two-hour webinar, a representative from the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) will discuss their publication of “Making Prevention a Reality: Identifying, Assessing, and Managing the Threat of Targeted Attacks” (available at https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/making-prevention-a-reality.pdf). This report examines the specific behaviors that may precede an attack and that might be useful in identifying, assessing, and managing those who may be on a pathway to violence. BAU will also discuss best practices for implementing a workplace violence prevention program that requires the input, cooperation, and ongoing efforts of Security, Legal, Cyber, Human Resources, Employee Assistance, and other departments in an organization.
