Jon will walk you through the requirements for obtaining the CISSP – Certified Information Systems Security Professional – the leading cyber security certification. Learn what it takes to get this prized certification along with his experiences. Offered by (ISC)2, the CISSP is widely-known as an expert level cyber security certification. Required by the DoD, and regarded by the InfoSec community as the common body of knowledge, the CISSP exam is not for the faint of heart. Jon’s talk will provide you with tips, tricks, and lessons learned that will assist you in obtaining this coveted certification.
Jon Watkins, CISSP, is the Manager of Information Services at Pioneer Electric Cooperative in west-central Ohio. He is a self-confessed geek from as far back as he can remember. He is the President of the IT Manager’s Association for Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives and the Chairman of the Cyber Security Task Force for OEC. His first computer was a Commodore 64 he received at the age of 13 and he has never stopped learning about technology since that time. He has sold technology and been a web-dev programmer. Jon holds a Bachelor of Cyber Security from DeVry and graduated Summa Cum Laude from that challenging program. He has participated on the Red Team in the Department of Homeland Security’s program for securing SCADA and industrial control systems where he hacked the defenders in 45 minutes. He also placed in the top 10 at the SANS Institute’s hacking challenge in San Francisco in February 2016. Recently, he earned his Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, an honor bestowed on less than 140,000 people in the world. A fun speaker who is passionate about cyber security and implementing it in practical ways, Jon loves to play music or draw when he’s not spending time with his wife, three kids, or his three lovely grandchildren.
We trust that members and guests have had access to great speakers/topics throughout these many years. For many, earning CPEs through attendance to our meetings is an extra perk. All of this has historically been offered at no cost to our members and guests. However, as our chapter continues to move forward, we have operational costs that need to be paid for to continue our chapter. Parking is free. If you come off I-675 and Fairfield, stay on the upper parking lot to the right. The entrance to the far right of the Nutter Center. You are on the same level as the Berry Room. It is not mandatory to RSVP (to infragard_info[AT]wright[DOT]edu), but it helps with the count. These meeting are open to the public and suitable for any organization.
